Introduced·2/24/26
Introduced Text

SB4070 establishes the CTA Transit Police Department to enhance safety on Chicago Transit Authority trains and buses.

SB4070 creates the CTA Transit Police Department, composed solely of sworn law-enforcement officers. This department will deploy 3-officer safety teams continuously through trains, stations, and buses, prioritizing high-crime locations. The Chicago Transit Authority will also implement a pilot program using AI-based weapon-detection scanners in high-crime stations and major bus hubs. Additionally, a limited facial recognition pilot program will be used to identify individuals with active violent-felony warrants or those prohibited from accessing CTA services.
