The O'Hare Sound Mitigation Grant Program Act creates a grant program for residential homes around O'Hare International Airport. The Illinois Department of Transportation Division of Aeronautics will administer the program, providing grants for soundproofing applications. Eligible homes must be within 20 miles of the airport, built before October 1, 1998, and have recorded a sound intensity of 55 decibels or more when an airplane flies over. Grants will be used for updating windows, doors, and other soundproofing work.
