The O'Hare Sound Mitigation Grant Program Act creates a grant program to help residents near O'Hare International Airport reduce noise from airplanes. The Illinois Department of Transportation Division of Aeronautics will administer the program, offering grants for updating windows, doors, and other soundproofing applications. To qualify, a residential home must be within 20 miles of the airport, built before October 1, 1998, and have recorded a sound intensity of 55 decibels or more when an airplane flies over.
