Illinois SB3935 amends the Code of Criminal Procedure of 1963 to expand eligibility for protective orders against domestic violence and stalking. The bill allows petitions for protective orders to be filed by victims of domestic violence, including those who were abused before the offender's incarceration. It also allows petitions on behalf of minors, high-risk adults with disabilities, and foster or adoptive parents. The court cannot deny a petition based on the petitioner or respondent being a minor or incarcerated. The bill takes effect immediately upon becoming law.
