Illinois SB3915 mandates manufacturers to implement a stewardship program for household hazardous waste.

Illinois SB3915, known as the Household Hazardous Waste Stewardship Act, requires manufacturers to establish, fund, and implement a stewardship program for household hazardous waste. Manufacturers must register with a stewardship organization by April 1, 2027, and annually thereafter. The Act mandates that manufacturers collectively fund the program, with specific cost-sharing requirements. Retailers are prohibited from selling products unless the manufacturer is part of an approved stewardship program. Collection sites must maintain records and provide data to stewardship organizations.
