SB3856

SB3856 amends the Biometric Information Privacy Act to define "security purpose" and allows private entities to collect biometric data for security.

SB3856 amends the Biometric Information Privacy Act to define "security purpose" as preventing or investigating retail theft, fraud, or misappropriation of a thing of value. This includes protecting property from trespass, controlling access to property, or protecting any person from harm, including stalking, violence, or harassment, and assisting a law enforcement investigation. The bill waives certain requirements for collecting, capturing, or obtaining a person's or a customer's biometric identifier or biometric information under specific security circumstances. Effective immediately.
