Illinois SB3794 prohibits counties and municipalities from regulating residential energy backup systems.

Illinois SB3794, known as the Residential Storage Act, aims to provide reliable energy by preventing counties and municipalities from regulating the installation or inspection of residential energy backup systems. This includes systems on buildings with shared roofs. The Act defines "residential energy backup system" as a backup energy system capable of providing up to 50 kilowatts of electricity or storing up to 200 kilowatt hours. The Act takes effect on June 1, 2026.
