Illinois SB3606 amends the Environmental Protection Act to regulate greenhouse gas emissions from electric generating units (EGU) and large greenhouse gas-emitting units. It mandates that coal-using EGUs and large greenhouse gas-emitting units achieve zero emissions by December 31, 2045. Other EGUs and large greenhouse gas-emitting units must reduce emissions by 45% from existing levels by January 1, 2035. Certain units must reduce emissions by 50% by January 1, 2030, and all units must achieve zero emissions by January 1, 2030, if they are not public greenhouse gas-emitting units.
