SB3495

ID CARD-GENDER DESIGNATION

Introduced·2/5/26
Introduced Text

SB3495 allows Illinois residents to choose "male," "female," or "X" on driver's licenses and ID cards.

SB3495 amends the Illinois Identification Card Act and the Illinois Vehicle Code to allow applicants for driver's licenses and identification cards to choose between "male," "female," or "X" as their gender designation. The Secretary of State must permit this choice on applications and when changing the gender on an issued card. The bill also specifies that the Secretary cannot require additional documentation beyond the gender designation form to confirm an applicant's sex or gender identity.
