SB3479

Illinois SB3479 mandates the Department of Corrections to maintain access to physical, hard-copy publications for inmates.

Illinois SB3479 amends the Unified Code of Corrections to require the Department of Corrections to adhere to a standardized process for all incoming publications, ensuring that inmates have access to physical, hard-copy publications. This provision takes effect on July 1, 2026, and mandates that even if the Department adopts a policy requiring or contracting for the digitization or photocopying of incoming mail or publications, it must still provide access to physical, hard-copy publications.
