BETTER SOCIAL MEDIA FEEDS ACT

Introduced·2/5/26
Introduced Text

The Better Social Media Feeds Act mandates that online platforms prioritize user long-term value over engagement in their algorithms.

The Better Social Media Feeds Act requires online platforms to configure their algorithms to maximize long-term user value metrics by default. It mandates transparency by requiring platforms to disclose their algorithmic systems, inputs, and weights. The Act also requires annual independent audits of long-term assessments and public disclosure of these assessments. It ensures that platforms do not penalize users for exercising their rights under the Act. The Act takes effect January 1, 2027.
