Illinois SB3405 amends the Hospital Licensing Act to require hospitals to schedule postpartum follow-up appointments for patients before discharge. Registered nurses or designated clinical staff can fulfill this requirement. Patients can decline the appointment, and their choice must be documented. The Department of Public Health can adopt rules to implement this Section. The Act also applies these requirements to the University of Illinois Hospital and takes effect on January 1, 2027.
