Illinois SB3234 mandates greenhouse gas emission reductions for electric generating units and large greenhouse gas-emitting units.

Illinois SB3234 establishes stringent greenhouse gas emission reduction requirements for electric generating units (EGU) and large greenhouse gas-emitting units. Public GHG-emitting units must reduce CO2 emissions to zero by January 1, 2045. Non-public units using coal or oil must reduce emissions to zero by January 1, 2030. All units must reduce emissions by 50% by January 1, 2035. The bill also mandates that units using combined heat and power technology reduce emissions to zero by January 1, 2045.
