SB3213

ELECTRONIC PRESCRIPTIONS

Final Passage·5/31/26

SB3213 regulates electronic prescriptions in Illinois, exempting prescribers and pharmacists from disciplinary actions under certain conditions.

SB3213 amends the Pharmacy Practice Act and the Illinois Controlled Substances Act to regulate electronic prescriptions. It exempts prescribers from disciplinary actions if they make a good faith effort to prescribe electronically but cannot due to uncontrollable circumstances. Pharmacists are also exempt from disciplinary actions if they dispense based on a valid non-electronic prescription. Exemptions apply to prescribers who certify they will not issue more than 150 prescriptions in a year before January 1, 2026, and more than 50 prescriptions in a year after January 1, 2029.
