SB3152

WILDLIFE-TRAP MEASUREMENT

Final Passage·5/21/26

Amends the Wildlife Code to update terminology and clarify trap specifications for trapping fur-bearing mammals.

The bill amends the Wildlife Code to replace references to "leghold" traps with "foothold" traps and specifies the diameter of traps must be measured from the inside edges of the outermost portion of the jaws. It also sets restrictions on the size of foothold leghold traps and body-gripping traps, both on land and underwater, and prohibits certain trap placements near animal dens and bait. These restrictions do not apply during the open season for trapping raccoons.
