SB3128

SCH CD-FIREARM SAFETY COURSE

Introduced·2/2/26
Introduced Text

SB3128 allows Illinois school districts to offer an optional firearm safety training course for students in grades 9 through 12.

SB3128 amends the School Code to permit school districts to offer a firearm safety training course for students in grades 9 through 12. The course may include instruction on hunting safety. Importantly, participation in the course is voluntary; no student can be required to take it. If a school board decides to offer the course, it must develop a policy to implement it and publish that policy on the district's website. The bill also specifies that no operable firearms or live ammunition can be present during the course.
