Illinois SB2996 mandates disclosure of political advertisements generated by artificial intelligence.
Illinois SB2996 amends the Election Code to require that any paid political advertisement distributed to the public, if created in whole or substantially by artificial intelligence, must include a clear and conspicuous statement to that effect. The statement must appear in a size and manner appropriate to the medium, such as in large letters for graphic communications or spoken clearly for audio communications. Exemptions include bona fide news broadcasts, satire or parody, and entities regulated by the Federal Communications Commission.
