SB2989

DNA MATCH ACCOUNTABILITY ACT

Introduced·1/29/26
Introduced Text

Establishes a statewide automated DNA match tracking system to ensure timely communication and follow-up of DNA matches.

The DNA Match Notification, Tracking, and Accountability Act mandates the Illinois State Police to establish a statewide automated DNA match tracking system. This system will receive DNA match notifications from accredited crime laboratories, automatically route them to designated law enforcement and prosecutorial agencies, and record subsequent actions taken. The Act also allows the Illinois State Police to purchase a commercial off-the-shelf software system, produce audit logs, compliance reports, and performance metrics, and ensure data security.
