SB2971

DHS-DEMENTIA TRAINING

Introduced·1/27/26
Introduced Text

SB2971 mandates dementia training for Illinois Department of Human Services employees and contractors.

SB2971 requires direct service workers for the Home Services Program to complete at least 2 hours of dementia training at the start of their employment and annually. The training must cover Alzheimer's disease and dementia, safety risks, and communication and behavior. The Department of Human Services must provide contractors with dementia training curriculum on these subjects. If other laws or rules impose more rigorous dementia training requirements, those apply. Workers who can prove they received equivalent training under another law or rule are exempt.
