Illinois SB2955 amends the Wildlife Code to establish a compensation process for property damage caused by wild deer. If wild deer cause more than $500 in property damage on land owned or leased by an Illinois resident, the Department of Natural Resources must compensate the resident for the actual damages. The Department is required to adopt rules to implement this compensation process. If the Department fails to compensate the resident within 180 days of a claim submission, the resident can bring an action against the State of Illinois in the Court of Claims for the actual damages incurred.
