Illinois SB2727 mandates greenhouse gas emission reductions for large electric generating units and greenhouse gas-emitting units.
Illinois SB2727 sets stringent emission reduction targets for large electric generating units (EGU) and greenhouse gas (GHG) emitting units. By January 1, 2030, EGUs and large GHG-emitting units using coal or oil must reduce CO2 equivalent (CO2e) and copollutant emissions to zero. Units using gas as fuel must also reduce emissions to zero by January 1, 2045, through retirement or use of green hydrogen technology. Combined heat and power units must achieve zero emissions by January 1, 2045.
