Illinois SB2676 mandates cursive writing instruction in public elementary schools for grades 3 through 5.
Illinois SB2676 amends the School Code to require public elementary schools to offer at least one unit of cursive writing instruction to students in grades 3 through 5, starting from the 2026-2027 school year. Previously, school districts determined the grade levels for cursive writing instruction, provided it was offered before students completed grade 5. This change standardizes the requirement across the state, ensuring consistent cursive writing education for elementary students.
