Illinois SB2452 amends the Acupuncture Practice Act to expand the definition of acupuncture to include ordering laboratory tests to monitor pain management and treatment effectiveness. It also includes dry needling within the scope of acupuncture practice. The bill removes the restriction on acupuncturists from providing physical therapy services if they are not licensed physical therapists. The definition of acupuncture now explicitly excludes radiology, electrosurgery, chiropractic technique, physical therapy, naprapathic technique, use or prescribing of pharmaceuticals, or vaccines.
