Amends the Radiation Protection Act of 1990 to require notification for irradiated nuclear reactor fuel shipments and allows the Agency to collect.
The bill amends the Radiation Protection Act of 1990 to require all intrastate and interstate shippers or carriers of irradiated nuclear reactor fuel to notify the Illinois Emergency Management Agency and Office of Homeland Security at least 72 hours prior to transportation. It also allows the Agency to collect, store, and dispose of uncontrolled sources of radiation that have entered the public domain and pose a threat to public health and safety or the environment. The Agency may assess actual costs for these activities against the person responsible for the radioactive material.
