Illinois SB2270 mandates Latina and Latino studies in public schools starting 2026-2027.

Illinois SB2270 amends the School Code to require public elementary and high schools to include a unit of Latina and Latino history in their curriculum starting in the 2026-2027 school year. This unit will cover the history of Latinas and Latinos in Illinois and the Midwest, as well as their contributions to civil rights, government, arts, humanities, sciences, and the economic, cultural, social, and political development of the United States.
