SB2182 mandates transparency for facility fees and prohibits fees for preventive services in Illinois.
The Facility Fee Transparency and Prevention Act prohibits health care facilities and providers from charging facility fees for preventive services. For other services, facilities must provide written notice of any facility fee not covered by insurance at least 7 days before the service. The notice must detail the fee amount, its purpose, insurance coverage, and billing contact information. Facilities must also notify patients of new business relationships, affiliations, or acquisitions. The Act creates the Facility Fee Reimbursement Fund to cover reimbursements and administrative costs.
