Deforestation-Free Illinois Act prohibits state purchases of tropical hardwoods and forest-risk commodities.

The Deforestation-Free Illinois Act prohibits the state and its agencies from purchasing tropical hardwoods and tropical hardwood products. It also bans the use of these materials in public works, building maintenance, or improvements. The Act defines forest-risk commodities as those extracted from or grown on land where deforestation or forest degradation has occurred or is likely to occur. State agencies must ensure contractors confirm that procured commodities do not contribute to deforestation or forest degradation.
