The Let America Read Act creates a formal grievance procedure for challenges to instructional materials in Illinois public schools. The State Board of Education will oversee this process, which includes the creation of clear, objective review criteria. A school district must designate a Review Committee to evaluate challenges, consisting of at least one librarian, several teachers, an administrator, trained students, and community members.
