Illinois SB2091 amends the Humane Care for Animals Act to increase penalties for injuring or killing police, service, search and rescue, and.

Illinois SB2091 strengthens protections for animals used by law enforcement, service, search and rescue, and fire departments. It makes it a Class 3 felony to torture, mutilate, injure, disable, poison, or kill these animals while they are on duty or in training, or when off duty and used for arson investigations. If the animal is killed or totally disabled, the penalty increases to a Class 2 felony. This law aims to better protect these vital working animals.
