Introduced·2/6/25
Introduced Text

Gender in Athletics Act mandates public higher education institutions to base athletic eligibility on biological sex, not gender.

The Gender in Athletics Act requires public institutions of higher education in Illinois to make athletic eligibility determinations based on biological sex, not gender. It prohibits school districts and nonpublic schools from allowing male students to participate in female-designated athletics. Students or their guardians can file grievances for alleged violations, with an immediate appeal to the State Board of Education if rejected. The Board of Higher Education is granted rulemaking authority to implement and enforce the Act.
