YOUTH SOCIAL MEDIA ENGAGEMENT

Youth Social Media Engagement Act aims to protect Illinois youth from the mental health risks associated with social media use.

The Youth Social Media Engagement Act establishes the Commission on Youth Social Media Engagement to compile a resource bank of scholarly articles on social media's mental and physical health impacts on youth. The Commission will recommend ways to inform parents, youth, and the public about these risks. The Department of Public Health will consult with the Department of Innovation and Technology to establish standards for social media platforms to inform youth about their engagement.
