COLLEGE PRESS-PUBLIC MEDIA

Chamber Passed·4/10/25

SB1988 amends the College Campus Press Act to protect State-sponsored institutions of higher learning from lawsuits over campus and public media.

SB1988 amends the College Campus Press Act to clarify that State-sponsored institutions of higher learning are immune from lawsuits arising from expression in campus media or public media produced at these institutions. It defines "collegiate student journalist" and "collegiate media adviser" and specifies that public media produced at these institutions is a public forum for expression by employees. The bill also allows employees or agents of entities producing public media to seek injunctive and declaratory relief for violations of the Act.
