Illinois SB1976, known as the Illinois Workers' Rights and Worker Safety Act, requires state agencies to maintain or exceed federal worker safety and rights standards as they existed on January 19, 2025. State agencies are prohibited from amending or revising their rules to be less stringent than federal laws unless authorized by state law enacted after January 19, 2025. State agencies can establish more stringent standards than federal laws. If federal laws are more stringent than state standards, state agencies must enforce the federal standards.
