Introduced·2/6/25
Introduced Text

SB1957 amends the Illinois Municipal Code to change how city clerks and treasurers are elected in cities with over 100,000 inhabitants.

SB1957 amends the Illinois Municipal Code to change the election process for city clerks and treasurers in cities with over 100,000 inhabitants. For the 2027 consolidated election, cities exceeding 100,000 inhabitants that do not currently elect their clerk and treasurer will nominate and elect these officials. If appointed, their terms, duties, compensation, and bond amounts will be the same as if they were elected. The bill also modifies the primary election ballot to include these offices.
