Illinois SB1920 amends the School Code to require the State Board of Education to create educational materials on American Sign Language instruction for kindergarten through eighth grade. These materials, to be posted publicly and distributed to all relevant school districts by July 1, 2026, will cover the importance of ASL, hiring and certification of instructors, curriculum implementation, proper instruction methods, and funding sources. The State Board may also seek assistance from outside organizations, State agencies, or individuals with expertise in American Sign Language.
