PEN CD-CHI POLICE/FIRE-WIDOW

Introduced·2/6/25
Introduced Text

SB1892 increases the widow's annuity for Chicago police and fire widows to 66 2/3% of the deceased's retirement annuity.

SB1892 amends the Illinois Pension Code to increase the widow's annuity for widows of Chicago police officers and firefighters. The widow's annuity will now be 66 2/3% of the retirement annuity the deceased was receiving at the time of death or would have been eligible for if they had retired the day before their death. This change applies to widows of police officers who retired on or after January 1, 1986, and firefighters who died on or after June 30, 1984. The bill also amends the State Mandates Act to ensure implementation without state reimbursement.
