Illinois SB1757 amends the Consumer Fraud and Deceptive Business Practices Act to mandate that any gift certificate issued on or after the effective date of the amendatory Act must be redeemable in cash for its cash value. The bill also prohibits the sale of gift certificates with expiration dates earlier than five years from the date of issuance or with post-purchase fees. Gift certificates issued before January 1, 2008, are exempt from these provisions if they contain a toll-free number and a statement clearly indicating the expiration date or fee.
