SB1712 provides occupational disease disability benefits to Chicago firefighters with certain service-related conditions.
SB1712 amends the Chicago Firefighter Article of the Illinois Pension Code to entitle active firefighters with 7 or more years of service to occupational disease disability benefits if they are unable to perform duties due to breast cancer, heart disease, tuberculosis, lung or respiratory diseases, AIDS, hepatitis C, stroke, or contagious staph infections, including MRSA, resulting from their service. The bill also provides child's disability benefits for unmarried children under 18 or dependent handicapped children.
