Illinois SB1680 establishes a 50% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions from the transportation sector by 2031.

Illinois SB1680, known as the Transportation Choices Act, sets an incremental goal of reducing greenhouse gas emissions from the transportation sector by at least 50% below 2005 levels by 2031. The Illinois Environmental Protection Agency must establish greenhouse gas emissions reduction targets for the state transportation sector by September 30, 2026. The Department of Transportation and Metropolitan Planning Organizations (MPOs) must establish their own reduction targets on a 5-year or more frequent basis.
