SB1661

ELEC CD-REDUCE PRECINCT JUDGES

Introduced·2/5/25
Introduced Text

Illinois SB1661 allows for a reduction in the number of judges of election in each precinct from 5 to 3.

Illinois SB1661 amends the Election Code to allow an election authority to reduce the number of judges of election in each precinct from 5 to 3. In precincts with 3 judges, 2 judges of election will preside over the election during the hours the polls are open, and a team of 5 tally judges will count the votes after the polls close. The tally judges must meet the same qualifications and be appointed in the same manner as election judges. The bill also allows for the appointment of students as election judges under certain conditions.
