Illinois SB1535, the Straw Purchaser Accountability Act, creates civil liability for individuals who engage in gun trafficking or knowingly deliver firearms, ammunition, or accessories to unauthorized persons. This includes those not legally authorized to possess such items, those purchasing on behalf of others, or those likely to use the items unlawfully. The deliverer becomes liable for any subsequent tortious conduct involving the item. The act allows for joint and several liability, prohibits double recovery, and sets a five-year statute of limitations.
