SB1527 amends the Public Utilities Act to remove the prohibition on constructing new nuclear power reactors with a nameplate capacity of more than 300 megawatts in Illinois. The bill allows construction to proceed if the entity constructing the reactor has obtained all necessary permits and the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission has approved the reactor. Beginning January 1, 2026, construction may commence on new reactors with a nameplate capacity of 300 megawatts or less.
