Illinois SB1496 appropriates $5 million from the Build Illinois Bond Fund to the Department of Natural Resources for capital improvements at the New Salem State Historic Site. These improvements include the reconstruction of the Grist Mill, repair and maintenance of all structures and perimeter fencing, illumination of outdoor statues and flags, and repair of the Wagon Wheel structure at the entrance. The bill takes effect July 1, 2025.
