SB1436 mandates removal and remediation of coal combustion residuals (CCR) from electric generating plants near Lake Michigan.

SB1436 amends the Environmental Protection Act to require owners and operators of CCR surface impoundments at electric generating plants within 4,000 feet of Lake Michigan to remove and remediate CCR. Owners or operators must submit a site investigation report and a removal and remediation plan to the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency. The plan must include a schedule for completion, analysis of transportation modes, and a method to address environmental justice concerns.
