PROP TX-BOARD APPOINTMENTS

Introduced·1/29/25
Introduced Text

SB1396 amends the Property Tax Code to allow for an expanded board of review in emergency situations.

SB1396 amends the Property Tax Code to allow for an expanded board of review in emergency situations. When a county board declares an emergency due to a high number of complaints, the county board chairman can appoint additional qualified members to hold separate hearings on complaints. These additional members cannot participate in the intracounty equalization process. The bill removes the provision that allowed for the appointment of qualified residents from directly adjacent counties in Lake, DuPage, McHenry, or Kane County. The Act takes effect immediately upon becoming law.
