Illinois SB1358 mandates insurance coverage for annual PET scans for individuals aged 35 and older.
Illinois SB1358 amends the Illinois Insurance Code to require group or individual accident and health insurance policies, and managed care plans, amended, delivered, issued, or renewed on or after July 1, 2025, to cover the full cost of an annual PET scan for insureds age 35 or older who choose to undergo the scan. This requirement applies regardless of whether the scan was ordered by a physician and whether the insured displays symptoms. PET scans, which use radiotracers to analyze metabolic processes, are considered highly effective for detecting malignancies.
