Illinois SB1255 restricts passengers from occupying vehicles carried by flatbed tow trucks on public highways.
Illinois SB1255 amends the Illinois Vehicle Code to restrict tow truck operators from allowing passengers to occupy the trailer, semitrailer, farm wagon, or any other vehicle being carried by a flatbed tow truck on a public highway. Exceptions are made if the number of people needing transport exceeds the seating capacity of the tow truck, if a person needing transport has a disability that limits their ability to enter the tow truck, or if there is a way for the passenger to communicate with the tow truck operator in case of an emergency.
