Illinois SB1239 prohibits school districts from using biometric systems on students and mandates the destruction of existing student biometric data.

Illinois SB1239 amends the School Code to prohibit school districts from acquiring biometric systems, including facial recognition software, for use on students. If a school district collects biometric information, it must adopt policies requiring written consent from the student or their legal guardian, discontinuing use upon graduation or withdrawal, and destroying the data within 30 days of discontinuation.
