Illinois SB0195 mandates commercial wind energy facilities to install light mitigating technology starting June 1, 2027.

Illinois SB0195 amends the Counties Code to require commercial wind energy facilities constructed on or after January 1, 2021, to install light mitigating technology. This technology, approved by the Federal Aviation Administration, must be installed within 24 months of receiving FAA approval. The facility owner can request an extension of up to 24 months. The county board may impose civil penalties of $1,000 per day on facility owners who fail to comply. The provisions do not apply to test wind towers used solely for research and testing.
