SB0170

VOLUNTEER EMERGENCY WORKER

Introduced·1/17/25
Introduced Text

Illinois SB0170 protects volunteer emergency workers from employer discipline and ensures job restoration after deployment.

Illinois SB0170 amends the Volunteer Emergency Worker Job Protection Act to safeguard volunteer emergency workers from employer discipline for responding to emergencies. Employers cannot terminate or discipline these workers for being absent or late due to emergency response, except for Emergency Medical Services personnel. Employers may deduct lost work time from regular pay and request a written statement from the volunteer's supervisor. Upon return from a disaster deployment, employers must restore the worker to a similar position of seniority, status, and pay.
