Illinois SB0119 amends the Prenatal Syphilis Act by requiring every appropriate health care professional attending a pregnant person in Illinois to test for syphilis. This includes a test at the first examination and another during the third trimester, between 27 through 32 weeks of gestation. The blood specimens collected must be submitted to a laboratory approved by the Department of Public Health for a serological test for syphilis. If the test result is positive or doubtful, additional tests must be performed.
